About Us

LLS Karate was formed in 2001 and provides expert tuition across Leicestershire in the traditional martial art of Shotokan Karate. Over the years we've been lucky enough to train with an ever-expanding network of local, national, and international instructors and Karateka, and regularly meet, train, chat, and share ideas. 

We're proud to say we're a family run business - the Spence family - with father/daughter instructor team Sensei Danny Spence and Sensei Chloe Spence. We now provide instruction to around a hundred students across multiple classes, generally organised by age and grade - classes are big enough to add some atmosphere, but small enough to allow some focus on specific needs where necessary. We train in the Main Hall at Humphrey Perkins High School in Barrow which provides a superb and safe training space.

All instructors in LLS Karate are fully accredited with the NAKMAS national governing body, including coaching qualification, instructor license, insurances, First Aid, and Child Protection. NAKMAS is one of the largest martial arts governing bodies in the UK and fully assess all accredited instructors. CRB/DBS information for all instructors is also available to view on request.
